We started or day with the pancake breakfast here at the campground. They have pancakes, eggs, biscuits, gravy and sausage, and it was pretty good and nice to not have to cook breakfast or go into town to eat. After breakfast and walking Lucy and Bailey, we went to see the fish hatchery in town. It's been years since I've been to one, and it's just unbelieveable the number of fish they raise.

The hatchery is right on the Animas River, which runs through the center of Durango.
After the hatchery, we drove out to Vallecito Lake, about 20 miles or so from Durango. We just took a drive through enjoying the scenery and watching for wildlife.
An area destroyed by fire |
There were hundreds of these geese in the water. |
Not sure if I've mentioned it before, but the weather here is beautiful. It's sunny, and windy... ALL the time, and there is virtually no humidity. I never thought I'd miss the 70% humidity of Missouri summers, and I know I'll be complaining about that in another few weeks. We haven't seen a drop of rain since we left Kansas 2 weeks ago. The humidity here has been around 20%, and everything is dry dry dry. There are no burn warnings everywhere, so no campfires. And it's easy to see how when a fire does get started it spreads so quickly with the wind blowing like it does.
After our drive around today, we came back to the camper and let the girls get a little air outside. I know they miss their back yard to run around in and chase rabbits!
The girls would love to go play with those horses! |
Not sure what we'll be doing tomorrow. We've got a jeep rented for Tuesday and will be going up to Silverton and Ouray, about an hour or two from Durango. We'll be taking some mountain trails, too and hopefully won't get stuck or lost! But for now, tomorrow looks like it's going to be a rest day!
So last night I was looking up life jackets and came across doggie ones. I immediately thought of Bailey. I see she she came equipped with a wardrobe as well.
ReplyDeleteSo weird this comment just showed up for me! They aren't wearing clothes lol Those are little vests we use to walk them, and then we use them when we seatbelt them into the car lol So much easier to walk them with those vests instead of using their collars! I have been looking for Bailey some summer-wear tho haha
